'MISOPHONIA'

'MISOPHONIA EXPERIENCE'

Misophonia is a disorder in which certain sounds, which can be found in everyday life, trigger an unreasonable or irrational emotional response or anxiety (WebMD, n.d.). We do not necessarily have misophonia as individuals, but there are certainly various sounds that we just cannot stand to hear without having feelings of unease, being unsettled, or even anxiety/panic attacks. These sounds could include something as simple as a clock ticking, people whispering inaudible things, a foot/fingertips tapping, high pitch frequency, extremely loud chewing or sounds made by some unknown creature. Often, these sounds have a repetitive nature.

It was, however, decided to move away from any form of interactive videos, as is draws the attention away from the sound effects created in the simulation. The TV static has forever been an eerie and uncomfortable thing to see, as many of us that have been exposed to horror films often relate it to fear as something bad usually happens straight after, such as in the famous horror, The Ring. TV static also causes frustration and irritation in many, as it means that the television is not working, creating a monotonous sound that could be a sound trigger for some.

The project was incredibly fun as we were able to see other individuals reactions to things that some find eerie and some find comforting (we were also shocked, don't worry). The project was largely successful in proving our hypothesis and it was really fun and interesting.
